Part 1 – My Eat, Pray, Love Trip in Indonesia (Mind/Body/Soul)

Look at the size of this plane! My 1st time on a full double decker plane! An A380!

Look at the size of this plane! My 1st time on a full double decker plane! An A380!

My 1st trip to Asia… another part of the World, another Country, another Culture! I was still in AWE as I entered the airport and saw the plane, it was at that point when reality set in, I’m truly flying to another Country and on a double decker airbus…an A380…this plane was HUGE!!! I was thankful for my traveling partner, my friend Chris, Angela’s cousin. We weathered the flight together and survived!

I had butterflies, I had no idea what to expect, but I had no expectations. The only intention I made was to go and travel and experience everything with an open mind and heart. I was ready to experience it all BUT 1st I had to conquer the 22 hour flight. Straight flight you ask?! Oh no… from the US to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Singapore then finally our 1st destination…Jakarta, Indonesia! This was the longest amount of time I have ever flown but I embraced it as forced time to sleep, catch up on movies, read my books and even do a little work. My butt was sore, my back was tight, my neck was twisted BUT I was EXCITED for what was to come! I slept on the plane because when we landed it would be 1pm in afternoon in Jakarta. They are 14 hours ahead and we had an itinerary as soon as we landed.

We landed and immediately the humidity hit me like a ton of bricks… But I loved it! It felt warm, tropical, it felt like I had arrived!!! I was pumped and excited to check into our beautiful hotel and get ready to meet up with the amazing Arifin Family!!!

My WELCOME to Indonesia from this family will go down in history as one of the best! First, I was so excited to be re-united with Angela (my client and friend). Second, her family was excited to have me as their guest and I was treated like a QUEEN. This was my 1st experience to Indonesian Food and it was a ROYAL FEAST! The food was FANTASTIC… they ordered all the Indonesian Specialties for me, plus amazing wine (which you all know I LOVE), and then came their traditional desert! My diet flew right out the window but I had already mentally prepared myself. There was NO WAY I was going to travel to another Country and not try the cuisine. I was stuffed, the richness of food, the spices, the broth, the fish, the meats, the noodles and the rice (which I’m still working off lol)….everything was a delight to my taste buds!! I met many members of the Arifin Family and I was so amazed by their hospitality. I love their daughter like a sister and in return they treated me as their daughter and as I’m writing this I have tears of joy, love and gratitude for how they treated me. Their love of people, their love of God, and peace showed in all of their actions and I learned lessons from them everyday!

Mr. Arifin (Angela’s Father) said to me after dinner: “I only want to see a smile on your face the whole time you are here…please enjoy our Country”!  I held back my tears and hugged and thanked him for his kindness and generosity to me. Mr and Mrs Arifin treated me as one of their own. This was my 1st night in Indonesia and my heart was already overwhelmed with gratitude from this family and this is only the BEGINNING of my journey…   It just keeps getting better! It wasn’t until the end of my trip that I realized God, the Universe whatever you believe in…was paying me back for all the hard work and sacrifice over the years because this was over and beyond my wildest dreams…. Stay tuned for Part 2 of my journey… the beauty keeps getting better!

The best WELCOME I have ever received! My Indonesian Parents!

Yoga, Juicing, Training and MORE!!!

Making some changes, making some changes!!!! WHY?! Because it’s time for a change, time to rejuvenate my body, mind and spirit! Time to get re-motivated and feel completely excited and unaware of what is coming. Time to go back to the beginning when I feel in LOVE with health and fitness…when I couldn’t get enough information, when I ate, slept and thought about fitness.. about Nutrition, the wonders of our body. We get complacent and at times forget that 1st Love feeling of our passion. I’ve been in this industry for over 19 years now (yes, I started when I was 12…Haha!!), and I’ve seen the fads come and go.. so many changes throughout the years.. it’s fascinating.. EVERYTHING EVOLVES!!! With that being said, I definitely feel the need to evolve with the changes BUT evolve into my own more unique person every year. I want to try something new, travel the world, dance no matter who’s watching, scream and shout, be excited for all the small things, and in every trial look for the good in it..meaning the lesson, and I’m learning a lot of lessons!

So there’s my basic thoughts on my journey this year….I really need to find a new word to replace journey…haha!! Anyways…. Here’s to health, fitness, prosperity, peace of mind and more!! It’s all there…time to REACH OUT AND GRAB IT and CLAIM THAT IT’S ALL MINE!!! Hope you do the same!!!

All about Change!

All about Change!

1st Day of my new Yoga Journey!

Hello ALL!

Well, I started a new journey for myself.. I started Yoga and juicing!! :)

Why you ask?! I have always loved Yoga but never remained consistent with it. I believe the benefits of Yoga are absolutely amazing for our bodies, mind and soul and since my goal this year is Balance, what better way to achieve that then with Yoga?! I have taken many yoga classes before and they are intense, I always made the excuse of not enough time or I have to lift today. I was tired of hearing my own excuses, I want and needed a change. A change in my physique, a challenge for me mentally and wanted true peace and balance in my life and my head. It’s never easy running your own business, it never stops…there’s always something to do, to plan, to create, to finish, to start, to achieve… not that it’s a bad thing BUT there needs to be some quiet time in my head and time with my friends and family.

I offer Yoga classes at my gym “Extreme Results Fitness” and my Yoga Instructors are FABULOUS, but I made the decision to step out of my own 4 walls and allow mind to completely rest and indulge in this activity for ME. There are times that I’m at my own gym and even if I’m taking a class I can’t fully enjoy it. I start thinking about other classes, about what needs to be done at the gym, talking to clients and so forth SO yesterday was my 1st day at a Yoga Studio and it was GREAT!

This was my 1st time at this studio and many Yogi’s all knew each other and the Instructor.. class started and I was unsure of what to expect..the Instructor started singing, then the entire class started singing…I had no idea what they were saying…was this Yogi Talk or song?! It caught me off guard but I closed my eyes and allowed myself to just rest and mentally prepare. Hence, the reason for their chanting or singing..it brings them into a place of calmness, forgetting about the outside world and it’s issues…it was time to focus and be YOU!

We started our Vinyasa’s and the posing became increasingly more difficult and I loved it! I am so thankful for my Yoga Instructors Niki, Shielu and Amber..as they have taught me the foundation and I was thoroughly impressed with how well I flowed thanks to them and their teachings at my gym. I felt strong, it wasn’t a competition, it was about me and what my mind would allow my body to do…how to force your mind to focus and persevere in the hardest of poses. Many of the Yogi’s were so impressive, their holds, arm balances, movements were just gorgeous and I aspire to practice and get better at each session. My goal is to hold  my arm balances, my handstands and more…it’s such a freedom to reach these poses you thought were unattainable. Needless to say..I’m hooked…I am investing in me and my own goal of taking Yoga 2-3 times a week. Am I still lifting weights….HECK YA!!! I am bringing Yoga in as an addition to my routine…NO EXCUSES this time around…I’m ALL IN! (And no….I’m not planning on turning into the Hippie Yogi…I’m getting asked that alot!!!! LOL!!!)

Now about juicing…I am not doing a crazy juicing detox where all I do is drink juices. I have chosen to add juicing into my daily lifestyle of clean eating once or two times a day. I believe juicing should be a lifestyle, not just a temporary detox as so many of us do. There are so many healing properties in our foods in raw form that it just makes sense to add this to my eating plan. I will be blogging and sharing my juicing recipes and why they are good…I’m on a path of learning, experiencing new ventures, exploring challenges for me that require my mind/body and soul!!

I’m excited to take you on this journey with me…..who knows..you may wanna join me one day! :)

Happy New Year…Welcome 2013!!!

2012 was Great!

2012 was a great year! I had many awesome accomplishments and as I look back I’m still in awe and also a little disappointed that I didn’t take more time to truly enjoy them. With being an entrepreneur, a business owner, and Fitness competitor, coach and more, it seems that once I reached a goal, another was already in place and I truly never allowed myself time to take the beauty of it all in. I find that many of us in life have this same issue…our lives are so busy, so fast paced that we don’t allow time to celebrate the small and big achievements in our lives.

This year I have made the commitment to myself to take time and celebrate all my accomplishments no matter how big or small they may be. My goal is to CREATE BALANCE in my life, enjoy my life and all those involved in my life. I’m very goal oriented and motivated but I realize I must have balance for inner happiness and peace. I’m so grateful for the many clients, friends and family in my life that I learned time shared equally with all of them produces true joy. What’s an amazing accomplishment without your loved ones to celebrate it with you?

So to start OFF the NEW YEAR….. I’m very excited to announce my 1st 2013 12 month Motivational and Informational calendar! The Years and Life of Jeanette Ortega, PRO Bikini Model!

Now it’s time to CELEBRATE!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

My 1st Annual Boot Camp “X” Challenge – Dec 1, 2012!! Calling all BOOT CAMPS!

Calling all BOOT CAMPS, CROSS FITS, GYM RATS, MARATHONERS, FITNESS ENTHUSIASTS…Come out and have some FUN!!!

Location: California Paintball Park Castaic, Ca….right past Magic Mountain!

Let's all Celebrate our love of Health & Fitness and get Dirty!

This race is a 5K course with 8-hardcore obstacles. The reason I founded the race is because I know there are many fitness studios & boot camps in the SCV, SFV & LA County, as I have mine in Northridge. We all have the same goal which is to reach a healthy-fit lifestyle. Therefore, this race is in celebration of fitness. We have “challenged” all individuals and Boot Camps in the surrounding areas to either enter individually or as a boot camp team of 6 (must be 3 boys & 3 girls) to enter and win…not to mention “bragging rights” :) This event will be fun & exciting & challenging at the same time. I believe this will be a great event to unite the community racing in celebration of health and fitness. Website: www.BootCampXChallenge.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/BootCampExtremeChallenge

My purpose and goal in life is to bring awareness and education into people’s lives toward understanding the importance of fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. This is why I put this event together because what better way to celebrate fitness than to unite us all together doing what we work hard at throughout the year. I hope to eventually bring about a friendly competition, bring awareness, and make change for a healthier world.

Fit, Fabulous and FORTY!! Yes, 40..where life begins…

Fit, Fabulous and Forty...Where Life Begins!

This has been quite a year…My business expanded and I opened a new larger personalized training studio.  I became extremely busy with new clients, new Instructors, more marketing, more paperwork, more programs and if that wasn’t enough, I decided after all these years of competing I’d finally compete for my PRO CARD with a completely new federation called The WBFF (World Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation). I’m currently Nationally Ranked as a Bikini and Fitness Competitor, hold my titles with other federations but decided to step it up a notch, why not…this was my last year in my 30′s…I wanted to achieve my PRO CARD status before I turned the young age of 40!!! As if my life wasn’t busy enough right?! The pressures of owning your own business are always high, there’s never a day off, never a time when I’m not trying to develop new ideas for marketing and classes which are just to name a few of the many things that go through my head on a daily basis. I embarked on this journey very excited full throttle ahead! My clients, family and friends were all very supportive and I already was “A PRO” in their eyes, so I was surrounded with amazing encouragement. My 1st show was in May in Kansas City…it was amazing…had a wonderful time being on stage again after taking a year off.. My 1st show I placed 3rd which was a fantastic start since I was new to this federation. 2nd show was in July, placed 3rd again, not too happy but I worked harder than ever, no time off! Then my 3rd and Final show was in August in Canada..I chose to go play on the big stage with the big girls..”The Pros”… This is where I placed 2nd in Bikini Model Diva and WON MY PRO CARD! At the age of 39, one month prior to my 40th Birthday.

As I come home from a show each time there’s always a period of reflection on everything I did…every step, every bite of food, every pose, what I could improve on, etc. At times this sport can be very self absorbing and other times you’re on an extreme high! Then you wonder…what qualifies anyone to be a judge, this sport is so subjective, there are really no rules, no true point system and you just gotta suck it up and roll with the punches! I’m extremely PROUD and EXCITED that I achieved my goal and if there’s anything I learned from this sport, it’s always a competition within yourself…and you must REMEMBER that and be TRUE TO THAT!

With all that being said, I look back and I’m so Proud of everything I have accomplished as I stepped into the Next chapter of my life… My 40′s… where life begins!! I’m excited for the new journeys I will embark on, My goals and visions are so much more GRAND now…I put no limits on what I want to achieve and I’m READY to take it on! I invite all of you to join me on my journey of new discoveries..I’ll be going and doing things I wouldn’t normally do… One chapter has closed and a new exciting one awaits!

AGE is nothing but a number…. It’s a freedom, it’s a celebration, it’s new discoveries and it’s gratefulness for all that has happened in the prior years which has molded me for who I am TODAY!

Thank you to all who have supported, encouraged, prayed, attended, praised, listened, and have been present in my life…I appreciate each and every one of you!

May and July 2012 Shows...3rd place Fitness Model Diva, 3rd place Bikini Model Diva

August 2012 World's, placed 2nd in Bikini Model Diva and WON MY PRO CARD!

I was named IRON LADY of the MONTH – June 2012

I am honored to be named June Iron Lady of the Month from IRON-Bodies of Steel. I am sharing my interview and hope it inspires someone out there! Thank you IRON Bodies for this honor! To have someone recognize your hard work is an awesome feeling and I thank you!

IRON – Bodies of Steel has the Distinct Pleasure of Introducing “June Iron Lady of the Month”
JEANETTE ORTEGAJeanette is gorgeous, vivacious, business minded, genuine and adorable all at the same time!!
She’s dedicated to her sport and it shows!!
Jeanette is an amazing role model for girls and woman of any age who are interested in the sport of bodybuilding or just being fit.

IRON – When did you first start your journey and become interested in working out?
JEANETTE – I was always active as a child and in school, played sports, took dance, was in the drama club. Always loved the feeling of working out and being active. Right out of High School I applied for my 1st job at Gold’s Gym in Sylmar Ca and started as an Aerobic Instructor. From there on I was in love with teaching and started personal training. It was there I met my 1st boss who was the one who instilled and inspired me to compete way back then. Sherry Goggin, she was an awesome fitness competitor at the time and planted the seed in me…what’s crazy is all these years later, her and I are great friends and work together in some business items.

IRON – What made you decide to step it up a notch and start competing?
JEANETTE – I remember watching all the fitness competitions on television and saying to myself, I can do that, I want to do that! This is amazing, these women are amazing…I want to be amazing! I started training a couple of times to compete and just didn’t follow it through due to life circumstances at the time. Throughout all the years I continued building my personal training clientele, teaching more classes, learning more, going to school and then one day I realized I was 29 years old and said to myself…I’m going to be 30!! I want to take myself to the next level, I wanted something more…a change for me, and to take my business to the next level. I wasn’t getting any younger, I was more determined than ever and I went FULL FORCE!!! It was the most amazing journey and the rest is history…I’ve only grown from there.

IRON – How many competitions have you been in?
JEANETTE – Oh my goodness… so many…let’s see, I’ve been competing for over 8 years with a little break in between.. I do about 1-3 shows a year..anywhere from 10-20 I believe.

IRON – Please tell our Fitness Fans a little bit about your competitions and the excitement surrounding them
JEANETTE – They are great fun..there is so much involved. The process to get to the show is hard, dieting is no joke, your body goes through some crazy changes, it’s an emotional roller-coaster and yet I love it at the same time. The day of the show is nerves, excitement, feeling of relief that the day has finally arrived, dreams of all the food I can finally eat after…and so on! The athletes you meet is one of the most awesome aspects about this sport. They come from all different walks of life, they have amazing stories of “WHY” they decided to do this and you respect each one because you know how hard it is to be there and prepare. For me, there is no other feeling than being on stage! I love the performance aspect of it…I’ve arrived, I’m here…I worked my butt off and I’m proud as heck to strut my stuff on that stage!!! Needless to say…it’s a great adrenaline rush!! The times I’ve won 1st place there are no words to explain that high…it’s the feeling of being on top of the world! My dream came true! :)

IRON – When did you open Extreme Results Fitness Studio? Tell our Fitness Fans about your Studio; what you do and how it works
JEANETTE – I have been a personal trainer for 19 years now.. I started my DBA (now a Corporation) as Extreme Results and was training clients out of my home, at parks and their homes but have always had the dream of owning my own gym. Finally one day my best friend called me saying she drove past a space that she thought would be great for me, it was small but perfect to start off with, I called, saw the space and made the move! it was 800 sq feet and I offered my boot camps, cardio kickboxing classes and many other classes as well, it was great BUT I was out growing my space. I was there for 2 years then moved onto my next spot of 5000 sq feet!!! It was a HUGE leap but thank goodness I did it! We offer so many classes…Yoga, Cycling Fitness, Boxing, Zumba, Boot Camp, Burlesque Fitness. Personal Training and more!!! When you come to my studio we have many different packages for the different wants and needs but they are all designed with a hard core RESULT at the end!

IRON – Is Extreme Bridal Boot Camp a Part of Extreme Results Fitness Studio or a separate business?
JEANETTE – It is a part of my Studio. I started off my Boot Camps in the park, catered to brides and their wedding parties to get them in shape for their big day. It continued to grow and I re-named it Jeanette Ortega’s Boot Camp so it was more inviting for anyone to join Boot Camp and to this day, my Boot Camp’s are my biggest classes!!

IRON – All of your pictures look like everyone’s having so much fun in your Studio, what do you think you do different that makes your studio excel so wonderfully and has made your “business” such a success?
JEANETTE – I try to make my gym feel like a home… we all get to know everyone, it’s feels like a big family, we support and encourage one another. My studio/gym is more of a personalized gym so there’s that special touch, even though there may be a class environment we still have that personalized touch with each person. I try to get to know each person and follow through with their progress. To me, individual attention is key, everyone wants to be recognized and I instill this in my Instructors as well. All in all, I want people to enjoy working out so I try to mix things up and always make it as FUN as possible!

IRON – I’m sure many girls idolize you and want to look just like you, what can you tell them about your workout in order to help them have a figure like yours?
JEANETTE – It’s hard work, it’s dedication, it’s a lifestyle! I workout 5-6 days a week and enjoy it! It’s my “ME” time and I love it! I don’t look at it like a chore, it’s my time and I hit it hard every time! It’s my own competition against myself to always make myself better, stronger and mentally capable of everything I start! I follow through, no excuses.

IRON – What type of diet and nutrition plan do you follow?
JEANETTE – Everything in moderation…I weigh all my food, portion size is HUGE!!! I have a balanced mixture of protein, carbs, veggies, fruits, good fats, and it gets mixed up depending on the intensity of my workouts. Some days I may take in more calories than others, all dependent on my day.

IRON – Your accomplishments are so impressive; Certified Personal Trainer, Nationally Ranked Fitness and Bikini Competitor, Owner of Extreme Bridal Boot Camp and Owner of Extreme Results Fitness Studio, please tell my Fitness Fans more about yourself and how you manage it all.
JEANETTE – I have a wonderful support team of family, friends and clients…would not be able to do this without all the support and love. I live with my boyfriend and his son and we have very busy home lives as well. It’s definitely a lot to juggle, there are days it’s more overwhelming than others but I would not trade it in for the world! I’m living my passion and everyday I awake I find appreciation in everything that I have been blessed with. I have worked hard and my hard work had paid off. I believe this is still just the beginning for me. I have so many dreams and goals, I never want to limit myself or feel this is enough…I’m grateful for it all but will always continue to dream BIG! God blessed me with this, I know somehow I can manage it!! My team of Instructors and my assistant definitely help me out tremendously as well, couldn’t do it without my strong team. They support me wholeheartedly and I’m so lucky to have them! All in all, I’m one happy gal..living a healthy life and feeling my best at the young age of 39!!!

This is what 39 looks like!!!

2012 WBFF Kansas City Championships

Here I am, Proud 39 years young, feeling stronger than ever! This is one year after I took a break from competing.. It was the best decision I had made. I focused and expanded my business, went from an 800 sq ft building (we were squeezing everyone in..lol) to a 2 story 5000 sq ft building…MY DREAM!! It was scary, I questioned myself but knew this move was necessary for growth, not only as a business but for myself as well. I had to believe in myself, I knew I was capable of increasing business, opening more classes, hiring more Instructors, Working hard..days and evenings, constantly planning…and it was hard, fear and doubt wanted to creep in but with my family, friends, and clients by my side it was the most AMAZING step forward I have done. I felt so strong, independent, powerful, and empowered!! Felt that if I conquered this craziness I could conquer anything! Hence, this year I also took on the feat of competing again, this time it was for my PRO CARD with the WBFF (World Body Fitness Federation)…meaning I am now going for the title of PROFESSIONAL, and with this hopefully comes more opportunities in the Fitness world. I decided to compete not just for my PRO CARD, but for myself, to once again push my body, mind and soul to a whole different level! I’m turning 40 this year and it motivates me more than ever to keep myself at my best! To inspire others that no matter what age, what circumstance, that Health and Fitness can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Nothing comes easy, it takes work…it takes time…and it takes motivation!!! If you desire something bad enough you will work for it, you will maintain your focus when others won’t. I now have my own Fit Team..”The Ortega Hunnies” and I instill in them to always remain true to reason why they decided to compete in the very beginning…never forget your true intention.

My 1st WBFF show was amazing…traveled to Kansas City to compete against the best and I met so many awesome athletes with wonderful life stories and events that led them there. I give each and every competitor props for making the commitment and following through to their goal. It’s so inspiring to be around top notch athletes and we all know how hard it was to get here. I ended up placing 3rd in my 1st WBFF show which was awesome…did not receive  my PRO status YET, only given when you place 1st. Felt a bit disappointed but that lasted about 5 minutes when I realized what a huge stage I was on, and what a great achievement it truly was. I took one year off from competing and this was an awesome way to return back to the stage!!  I’m continuing my journey and I will be competing again in July for another crack at y PRO card…I want it more than ever…Im focused, excited and ready for another journey that only takes me deeper within myself to give it all I have. I will be documenting this journey and I THANK ALL OF YOU for the love, encouragement and support I have always received in my 9 years of competing…would not be able to do this without all of you!!!

Stay tuned for a FUN RIDE!!!!
